George was born in 1869. He was the son of Joseph McGauvran and Mary Brownrigg. He passed away in 1937.
George McGauvran, youngest son of Joseph and Mary (Brownrigg) McGauvran, was born near Alfred, Ontario in 1869.
As a young boy when the family came to Dakota Territory, he spent several years in school at Beaulieu and Olga. Too young to homestead as his brothers had, he worked for his brothers and on road construction for a number of years and eventually purchased land in Hay Township.
In 1900 George married Sarah Ellen Maloney, a teacher who had come from Manitoba to teach in Cavalier County.
They rented their farm land in 1907 and moved to Osnabrock where they owned and operated a restaurant across the street from the Great Northern Depot for many years.
George and Sarah had five children: Mildred, Edwin, Ralph, Wesley and Muriel. The children were all born and raised in Osnabrock.
