Biography

Alexander Mitchel was born in Loudoun, Ayr, Scotland in July of 1747 to Thomas Mitchel and Marion Mair.^[1] He married Agnes Richmond in Loudoun in 1761^[2] and together they had at least 7 children, including: 1 Alexander

He likely died in Loudoun in 1836 as his is the only death record for an "Alexander Mitchel" (or similar name spelling) in and around that general time period in Loudoun^[3]

Research Notes

Two additional and possibly related 1836 records exist from the Ayr Sheriff's Court for an Alexander Mitchel, "...Extract, Disposition and settlement" for "Farmer in Gainhill, Parish of Fenwick"^[4] (which bordered Loudoun to the Northwest) and an "Inventory" of "Farmer in Hillhead of Sorn, Parish of Sorn"^[5] (one parish down to the South of Loudoun). As at least 2 of Alexander's sons were known to have become successful farmers at Blackshills Farm in Kilmarnock Parish, which bordered Loudoun and Fenwick parishes on their Western borders, so these two records quite possibly refer to farmland and inventory he owned, farmed and passed on to his heirs.
