Mary was born in 1841 at Cherry Hinton, but not baptised there until 1860[1] shortly before she was married. She is the daughter of William Moden, a Farm Labourer and Sarah Fowler. Mary was married to John Bell in 1860 at Cherry Hinton[2] and they had eight children, four sons and four daughters. Mary was no doubt principally occupied in taking care of their children and running the household, but in 1881[3] she was also recorded as a Laundress. Mary died in 1899[4] at Cherry Hinton and was buried there[5].
