Biography

Sarah (Mosely) Toles is a part of US Black heritage.

Sarah was born in 1891. She was the daughter of Jefferson Mosely and his wife, Jessie. She was married to Carl O Booth, he was a well known physician in the area. The couple can be seen living with her father and his second wife, in the 1910 census. ^[1]

She and Carl had two boys prior to his death in 1919. Shortly after his passing, she married James D. Wheeler in Detroit, Michigan. ^[2] The couple can be seen living with Sadie's two sons, in Detroit. ^[3] The couple had one son together, Jimmie, in November of 1920. In June of 1926, a divorce was granted between the couple with the reason of extreme cruelty.

By 1930, she had married Arthur Toles, and the couple was living in Detroit. ^[4] There is no mention of her son, Jimmie, who would have been just 10 years old at the time.

Sadie was an accomplished pianist, and she was often requested to play at various events in Michigan. Her accomplishments were also recognized in her home state of Alabama.

She is mentioned by name as next of kin in her son's Individual Deceased Personnel File. She was secondary as his wife had remarried at the time of the processing of the remains.

She passed away in 1980. ^[5]

Her son, Lt Jimmie D. Wheeler was a Tuskegee airman who lost his life in 1945 when his plane crashed while on a mission.
