Isabell was born in 1829 in Lawrenceburg Township, Dearborn County Indiana. She was the daughter of John Mote and Mary Garrett Hall. Her father probably died in the mid 1830's. Her mother moved the family from Dearborn to Jennings county about 1836 where she bought land in 1839.
Isabell married widower Benjamin Sutton on 17 Aug 1852. Charles Snowden, Eld, performed the ceremony. They lived in Geneva Township in Jennings County and had at least six children Millard Filmore Sutton (1853–1923), Lankford Sutton (1857– ), Melvin Theodore Sutton (1859–1927), Eva M Sutton (1861–1947), Edith Ann "Annie" Sutton (1863–1928) and Mary Amazelle "Annie" Sutton (1866–1925). Benjamin had been a farmer in Geneva Township in 1850 prior to his marriage to Isabell, but in 1860 he was working as a lumberman.
Isabell was widowed in 1870, but remained in Geneva Township, raising her children on her own. In 1900 she can be found in the household of her son Melvin, still in Geneva Township. She passed away in 1903.
