John "Johannes" Nehs/Neese was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia near Forestville the second child, & first son of Adam Nehs & Elizabeth Harpine. Records of the Old Pine Church Baptisms 1783 - 1828, published by the Shenandoah County Historical Society, Mill Creek, Virginia Page 31, have his date of birth as 29 December 1792. He was baptised 10 February 1793, sponsored by Johannes Nehs & wife, Elisabeth. This same record is also recorded in Solomon Church Baptisms 1793 -1850 Forestville, Virginia, Page 18.

The oldest child of Adam Nehs & Elizabeth Harpine was Torathea [Dorothy - Dolly] born 11 April 1791 - Baptised 12 June 1791 sponsored by Henrich Rausch & wife Torathea, she married Jacob Bowers. Johannes had a brother, Michael Nehs/Neese born 27 March 1794, Baptised 18 May 1794, sponsored by parents, also recorded in both of the Records mentioned.

Many researshers have this Johannes Nehs/Neese married to Elizabeth Painter , however upon examining this John's records in Census records, he probably was never married. In the 1830 Census for Shenandoah County, Virginia, the Michael Neese family has two males in the 30-39 range which fits for both Michael & John. Included in ths Census is Michael's wife, Rebecca Pence at the 20-29 range and a female in the 60-69 range which would be Michael & John's mother Elizabeth Harpine Nehs Mowery. Elizabeth married George Mowery, 29 June 1801, after his first husband Adam Nehs died 1 December 1797.

In the 1840 Census for Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, Michael & John are in the 40-49 age range with Rebecca in the 30-39 age range. with other children of Michael Neese fitting in, Michael is using middle initial C by this time. In the 1850 Census, the oldest daughter of Michael Neese, Elizabeth Neese, now married to Lewis Circle [Zirkle] III & living in German Township, Clark County, Ohio & has John Neese, age 57 listed. In the 1860 Census, Michael's son Samuel Neese living with his family in Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio has John Neese, age 67, living with this Samuel Neese family.

This John Nehs/Neese died 3 October 1860 and is buried with a marker between Jacob Neese, 1 March 1841 - 15 June 1896, son of Michael Neese & a Jonas Neas, 10 August 1830 - 23 January 1839, also probably a son of Michael Neese, in Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio. To the left of this Michael Neese is his wife, Rebecca Pence Neese, 13 September 1802 - 23 July 1873.

The aforementioned Elizabeth Painter, 14 April 1796 - 11 November 1856, daughter of John Painter & Born in Virginia, is buried in Nettle Creek Cemetery, Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, beside her husband John Neese, 5 June 1792 - 9 September 1852, Mad River Township, Champaign, Ohio. This John Neese is listed in the Old Pine Baptism records Page 31, son of [John] George Nehs/Neese 28 November 1767 - 2 April 1812 & Elisabeth [Zirkle] 17 September 1767 - 27 March 1859, & both of these parents are buried in Zirkle Cemetery, Forestville, Shenandoah, Virginia.

These parents, John George Neese & Elizabeth Zirkle, also had a son named Michael Neese born 23 April 1796 - Baptised 20 December 1797 in Solomon Church Records Page 20, died 25 April 1852, who married a Elizabeth Zirkle, 23 March 1799 died 4 April 1855. This couple Michael & Elizabeth were parents of at least 15 children, many of whom also moved to Champaign County, Ohio, however some stayed in Shenandoah where the parents are buried in Zirkle Cemetery, Forestville, Shenandoah, Virginia. An interesting note in the listing's of Baptism's of Davidsburg Church Baptism's 1785 - 1845, which includes the Johannes Zerkel & wife Rosina children on Page 33. Elizabeth Zirkle, daughter of John & Rosina born 23 March 1799 Baptised 20 May 1799, had Sponsors Johannes [George] Nehs/Neese & wife Elizabeth [Zirkle] , this couple were the parents of her future husband, Michael Neese.
