Biography
Mary Louise Neff was born on 24 May 1865 in Lycoming, Pennsylvania, United States. Her parents were Jacob Neff and Harriet Walters.[1] The family relocated to Indiana by about 1867.[2] She was enumerated with her parents and siblings during the 1870 and 1880 censuses, living on a large farm in Rochester Township, Fulton County, Indiana.[3][4] She completed school through the fifth grade.[5]
Mary married John W. Mullican, son of Isaac B. Mullican and Cath Dickman, on 4 March 1896 in Westgate, Fayette County, Iowa. Robert O. Miller, Minister of the Gospel, officiated, and Dickman family members served as witnesses.[6][7]
Their known children were:
- Forest E. Mullican (abt.1896 - bef.1910)[8]
- Ruth Mullican (abt.1904)[9]
- Margaret Mullican (abt.1907)[9]
The Mullican family was enumerated during the 1900 census, living in Jefferson Township, Fayette County, Iowa.[8] By 1904, they had moved to Indiana. In 1910 they were living in a house they owned at 310 Pontiac Street in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana.[9] Mary was widowed later that year, in December.[10]
She next married John Barnhisel, son of Cornelius Barnhisel and Elizabeth Hoffman, on 15 October 1913 in Fulton County, Indiana. Rev. William E. Snyder, Minister of the Gospel, officiated.[1] They had no known children together. Mary and John were enumerated during the 1920 through 1940 censuses, living on a farm in Perry Township, Miami County.[11][12][5]
Mary was widowed in 1942.[13] She died at the age of 94 of cardio renal-vascular disease, on 25 November 1959, at the Miller Nursing Home in Rochester. She was buried two days later at Rochester IOOF (Odd Fellows) Cemetery.[14]

- ↑ The 1870 census shows Mary to be the last child born in Pennsylvania; the rest starting with Elmer in about 1867 were born in Indiana. The 1880 census disagrees, showing "Elmore" also born in Pennsylvania, and the next child William born in Indiana about 1870. Assuming the earlier census to be more accurate, but this is subject to change with better evidence.
