Biography

Samaria Lewis Nevil was born in 1806. She was the daughter of Cornelius Nevil and Alice "Alcy" Edmunds, a daughter of Samuel Edmunds of Nelson Co., VA.

Samaria first married to Almond Vaughan, who had became her step brother in 1817 when her widowed mother married his father George Washington Vaughan. Samaria claimed to be of lawful age in 1823 when she and her husband filed a complaint in a Court of Chancery to divide slaves deeded to her and younger brother Samuel Edmunds Nevil by their maternal grandfather. [1] Almond and Samaria appeared in Nelson County, Virginia during the 1830 census. It appears they shortly thereafter left Virginia for Missouri, where Almond died in 1831.

Samaria again married to John A. L. McQueen. The couple was residing in Shelby County, Kentucky when she passed away in 1860.
