Ira Quinton NORWOOD published in The Beebe News on 22 May 2008. Ira Quinton Norwood, Sr., age 88, of Beebe, Arkansas died May 15, 2008. He was born October 8, 1919 in Norwood, San Augustine County, Texas to William Stanhope and Zemma Erwin Norwood. Ira retired from the U.S. Air Force after thirty one years holding the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in World War II and Korea. Ira was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a NRA Certified Pistol and Rifle Instructor and a Certified Police Firearms Instructor. He was a qualified civilian and military pilot, flying both single and multi-engine aircraft. During WWII he flew the B-24, B-25, and the B-29. He was wounded flying a classified mission. Ira was a Mason, a life-time member of the Fortitude Lodge No. 107 A.F. & A.M., Independence, Kansas, a Master of the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Dallas, Texas, and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in San Antonio, Texas. After all Ira accomplished in his life, and I have mentioned only a few, he felt the greatest thing he did was become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ira is survived by his wife, Zona Hunsucker Norwood, of Beebe; son, Ira Quinton Norwood, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Audrie Wall of Texas City, TX, Lois Smith of Channelview, TX, and Otheal Means and her husband, Robert, of Houston, TX; three brothers, Fletcher Norwood of Vidor, TX, Luther Norwood and his wife Corrine, San Augustine, TX, and Reginald Norwood of Spring, TX; sister-in-law, Wanda Woods and her husband, Stanley Woods, of Beebe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral was 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008 at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Burial was in Cotton Plant Cemetery in Cotton Plant, AR. The family received friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Westbrook Funeral Home. www.westbrookfuneralhome.com
