Biography
Joel Nuby is a part of US Black heritage.
Joel Nuby was born on 22 Feb 1874 in Salisbury Township, Meigs County, Ohio, United States. He was the son of Joseph J Nuby and Martha Ann Pettisford.[1] In 1880, his family was living in Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio and his father was a farmer.[2]
On 3 Aug 1901, Joel married Mary Ellen Mundell in Gallia County, Ohio.[3] At the time of their marriage, she had a four year old son, William Henry Mundell. In 1903, Joel and Mary Ellen had a daughter, Effie. Joel and Mary Ellen divorced on 11 Mar 1909.[4]
In 1910, Joel was living in Springfield, Gallia County, Ohio with his parents.[5] He married Artie Maria Williams on 26 Jun 1913.[6] There is no evidence that they ever had children. In 1920, they were living in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio and Joel was working as a school house janitor.[7]
Joel died on 22 Feb 1920 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio of influenza and pneumonia.[8][9] He was buried in the Pine Street Colored Cemetery in Gallipolis.[10]
