Marriage
She married Peter Barker on December 23, 1863 at Belfast, Victoria when she was 21, and he was 28. (on marriage certificate). They ran a grocer's shop together in Warrnambool.
Life
Mrs Phoebe Barker of Koroit Steet, next to the Royal Archer Hotel, in the early 1890's, had a fruit shop that also offered light refreshments. She took orders for jam fruit and by the late 1890's was operating in Liebig Street, continuing until about 1918. Phoebe Barker (nee Oakley) came out to Australia in 1842 with her parents and siblings, settling in Tyrendarra. In 1864 Phoebe married Peter Barker and they farmed in Yambuk. She opened her tea rooms to support her seven children after her husband's death in 1891. [3]

DEATHS
BARKER.—On the 29th October, at private hospital, Warrnambool, Phoebe, relict of the late Peter Barker, Yambuk and loving mother of Susan (Mrs W. Lyfield, Port Fairy), Annie (Mrs. H Auhl, Preston), Jane (Mrs E J Thomas, Yambuk), Ernest (deceased), Melinda (Mrs. R. H. Watts, Glenormiston South), Beatrice (Mrs G. H. McCullough, Warrnambool), and David (Burnley], aged 81 years. [4]
Buried at Yambuk Cemetery with Peter. With her individual headstone recording the wrong month for her death, her memorial reads: [5][6]
