Emeline Parris was born in 1827 in the Cherokee Nation, the daughter of Moses Parris, a Cherokee, and his wife Mary Langley, a white woman. [1] The family emigrated to Indian Territory as "Old Settlers" in 1831. [2] Emeline married William Beatty, also a Cherokee, on October 15, 1847. [3] They were the parents of five children: Samantha, Amanda, Robert, Quintilla, and G.W. The family appears on the 1851 "Old Settler" roll, living in Illinois District, Indian Territory. [4] Quintilla, Robert and G. W. are listed with Emeline on the 1880 Cherokee census; both sons had died by 1896. [5]
William died during the Civil War. Emeline appears on the 1896 Old Settler payroll, living in Braggs. [6] In 1900 Emeline was living with daughter Quintilla and her family. [7] Emeline's death date is uncertain, but she died after 1904. [8]
