Birth Year BASED on his age of 38 at the time of his Death, 2 August 1784.

Son of Israel Pemberton and Sarah Kirkbride.

He married on 7 Jun 1767, in Philadelphia to Ann Galloway, per Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy Vol. II. Pg. 619.

Published: Maryland Gazette -June 2 1767 Annapolis, Maryland; - On Tuesday last was married at West River Meeting house, Mr. Joseph Pemberton, son of Israel Pemberton of Philadelphia to Miss Anne Galloway, a very amiable and agreeable young Lady with a handsome fortune.

Joseph Pemberton's Death recorded as 2 August 1782 - Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

My dear husband Joseph Pemberton departed this Life at his house at West River in Maryland the second day of the eighth month the fourth day of the week about 12 o'clock noon in the year of our Lord 1782, in the 38th year of his age after a painful illness of near four weeks with the gout in his bowels which he endured with great patience and seeming resignation to the will of his blessed redeemer, who I hope and believe hath admitted him into the heavenly Mantion. His remains were interred in friends burial ground at west River on the 29th where myself and five of our children attended. Sincerely mourning for an affectionate husband and uncommon indulgent father his friends (frs;) and neighbors general attendance on this mournful occasion manifested their regard and can say I believe with a truth as he lived so he died beloved by all that was acquainted with him.

Previous research information

Joseph Pemberton, his third son, b 1745 and Joseph's wife Sarah Kirkbride continued a liberal lifestyle and took up social dancing. They had 8 children, the youngest was John.^[1]

He may have been an abolitionist along with Samuel Robert Pleasants, his brothers-in-law.
