Lord of Perwez and Grimbergen. [1]In march 1234 he's a witness together with his brother Ingelram in a charter by Henri I of Leuven.[2] Lateron he's witness in charters by the dukes Henrik I, Henrik II and Henrik III in 1225, 1231, 1233, 1236 (together with his brother Ingelram), 1237, 1238, 1244, 1248, 1249, 1251 (where he's called uncle of duke Henrik III), 1254 and 1257. [3][4] In 1250 he sells the guardianship of Hoegaarden to the bishop of Liège [5] After the death of Henry III, duke of Brabant, duchess Aleidis relied on Godfried of Perwez and Wouter Berhout for the government of the duchy to thwart the attempts of her childrens closest relatives to take on the guardianship, but Godfried died not long after duke Henry I, leaving Wouter as sole governor.[6]
He was part of the expedition of Charles of Anjou in 1254 as one of the bannerman of the duke of Brabant. As such he was included on the Bigot roll.[7] His arms are described as "De gueules, à la fasce d'argent."[8]
He was present at a tournament in honor of duke Jan I of Brabant's wedding in 1269. As such his arms were included in a roll of arms.[9]
