Nellie May Phares was born on July 11, 1884 in Duron Keno, Kansas, United States, daughter of Eber W Phares (1863–1889) and Mary Virginia Simmons (1861–1940).^[1]

Nellie married Joseph R Woodard (born in 1864 in Illinois, United States).

In 1895, Nellie (10) was in the household of her mother and stepfather, C S Thompson, in Stanton, Miami, Kansas. ^[2]

In 1900, Nellie (15) was in the household of her mother and stepfather, CS Thompson, in Pleasant Valley & Terry Township, Finney, Kansas. ^[3]

In 1920, Nellie M (35) was living with her husband, Joseph in Deerfield, Kearny, Kansas. Also in the household were her son, William, her mother and stepfather, and her halfsister, Edith. ^[4]

In 1930, Nellie (45) was in the household of her son, William, in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado. Her mother was also in the household. ^[5]
