Alice May Pinniger was born in 1871 in East Ballarat, in the gold rush Town of Ballarat, in the Central Highlands, 110 km (68 mi) northwest of the capital City of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, Australia[1]. She was the daughter of Henry Pinniger and Letitia Maxwell Hamilton.
Alice never married, working as a Housekeeper, until she passed away at the age of 46, on the 18 November 1917, at "Wylgamere", Hopetoun Street, Canterbury, City of Melbourne, District of Balwyn, in the County of Bourke, Victoria, Australia. She had been residing with her married sister, Ellen Eliza (Pinniger/Marshall) at the time of her death, which was certified as being Acute Phthisis (Pulmonary Tuberculosis), which she suffered with for three (3) months[2]. She is buried on the 20 November 1917, with her father, Henry, at the Church Of England portion, Section 2, Grave 359 of the Geelong Eastern Cemetery, 141 Ormond Road, Eastern Geelong, Victoria, Australia[3]. The inscription on the headstone reads as follows:--To The Memory Of ANNIE Eldest Daughter of HENRY & LETITIA PINNIGER Who Died 22nd February 1887. Thy Will Be Done. ALSO Our Dear EVA Who Died 29th May 1887, Aged 12 Years. AND LILY Youngest Daughter Of The Above Who Died 30th January 1904. ALSO HENRY PINNIGER Who Died 8th June 1906, Aged 78 Years. AND ALICE MAY PINNIGER Died 18th Nov. 1917. LETITIA MAXWELL PINNIGER Died 27th Dec. 1933[4]
DEATHS. PINNIGER.—On the 18th November, at "Wylgamere," Hopetoun street, Balwyn, Alice May, the dearly loved fourth daughter of Letitia and the late Henry Pinniger, late of Newtown, Geelong.[5]
