Alexander was born in 1827. He is the son of Stewart Pipkin and Marian/Miriam Laws. In 1850 and 1860 he is enumerated on the federal census in the Yalobusha County, Mississippi home of his parents. [1][2]
There is a conflict as to whether Alexander was Alexander Stewart Pipkin or Alexander Smith Pipkin. Additional research is needed.
