Biography

Wilbur E. Plants was born in 1896 in Mason County, West VIrginia. He was the son of Theodore H. Plants and Mary S. McKinney. Wilbur attended college and by 1918 he was employed as a teacher in Leon, Mason County, West Virginia as he indicated on his World War I Military Draft form.

In June of 1918, Wilbur enlisted in the military and was discharged in August of 1919. The 1920 U.S. census revealed that he was living at his father's house in the Cooper District of Mason County, West Virginia and was employed as a principal in a public school, By 1930, Wilbur had moved out of his parent's house to Marsh Fork, Raleigh County, West Virginia and was employed as a teacher in a public school.

It believed that Wilbur married Mary O. Gorrell around 1934. In 1935, they were living in Montcoal, Raleigh County, West Virginia. In 1940, Wilbur was now employed as a mail clerk for a railroad and he and Mary and a daughter were living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The 1950 U.S. census shows that Wilbur had moved his family to Robinson in Mason County, West Virginia and was still working for a railroad as a mail clerk.

Wilbur passed away in a medical center, in Gallia County, Ohio in the year 1973 at the age of 77. His last known residence was in Mason County, West Virginia.
