William Polhemus was born in 1861 in Clintondale, Plattekill, Ulster, New York, United States, son of John Henry Polhemus (1832–1912) and Sarah Ann Hoppenstedt Polhamus (1834–1909).^[1]

In the 1910 census William (age 35) was the single brother of Oliver Paulhanious in Greendale, Midland, Michigan, United States.^[5]
