Biography

Jane Porterfield was born in 1808 in Ohio. Her parents are unknown.^[1]

By 1850 she was living in Morrow County with husband John Guthrie.^[2][3] In the 1860's the family moved to Noble County, Indiana.^[4][5] They were parents of:

1. Martha A (1831-1884)
2. Joseph (1833-1865)
3. Ebenezer (1835-1907)
4. Maria (1838-1900)
5. John H (1840-1919)
6. Susanna (1843-1889)
7. Mary Jane (18451-1913)
8. George W (1846-1907)
9. Margaret (1847-1880)

She passed away in 1884 in Noble County.^[1]

Research Notes

FindAGrave has a birth location of Belmont County, Ohio. As an adult (1850 and 1860 Census') she is found in Morrow County, Ohio and moved to Noble County, Indiana in the 1870s. She does not yet seem to match the known Porterfields from Belmont, Ohio that descend from James Porterfield (abt.1777-1861) from Ballylennon, County Donegal, Ireland.

Proof of her maiden name comes from daughter Maria's marriage record.^[6]
