Biography

John was born in 1841 in Ireland. He is the son of John Porterfield and Nancy Stephenson. John became a naturalized US citizen in 1881 in Wisconsin.^[1] He passed away in Marinette, Wisconsin in 1898 where he was one of the original pioneers in the area. On a Tuesday morning, he was hit by a Wisconsin and Michigan passenger train when he accidently stepped in front of the train while working in a train yard.^[2][3]

John married Jane McMonagle in 1864. ^[4]
