Biography

William was born in 1540. He married Isabelle Cunningham. He passed away in 1620. Upon the death of his father, John Porterfield, in 1575 he became the laird of Duchal until his own death in 1620^[1] or 1616.^[2]

He was liberally educated, both at home in Scotland and in France. He could speak French fluently. He became eminently wealthy.^[3]
