Biography

Robert was born in 1757. He was the youngest son of Patrick Porterfield. Robert married Agnes Robinson. ^[1] They moved to Ohio. His descendants are found in Morrow County, Ohio. He passed away in 1824 in Ohio.^[2]

Robert was an early schoolmaster in Camden.^[3]

Adjutant Robert Porterfield served with Sherburne's Additional Continental Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

He was an adjutant in the Maine militia as part of the Masschusetts Line on August 4, 1785.^[4] Robert his wife Agnes are found in Ohio revolutionary war pension records of 1818 indicating he served in the Revolutionary War. ^[5] Other reports indicate he filed for a pension from Ohio in 1820 after he moved there in 1813.^[2]

Death

He died in 1824. His headstone was broken and reset in cement and partially covered in the cement. A transcription done in 1991 states in parenthesis that Robert was a "Rev. War soldier, a pensioner in Delaware Co." His footstone has the "War of 1776 Star" next to it.^[6]
