Biography

Sarah was born about 1803.

The 1851 census at South Witham has the widow, Sarah listed as a Farmer Miller and Baker. Also listed are two sons, William (19) and Henry (15). a William Shirgress (born c. 1822, Wissenden, Rutland, Baker Journeyman) and Lucretia Healey (born c. 1832, Corby, Lincolnshire, House Servant) are also listed. [1]

The 1861 census at Thistleton, Rutland has Sarah Pollard (Farmer's wife) married to Robert Pollard (born c. 1789, Thistleton, Rutland). Robert was a Farmer (93 acres employing 7 labourers). A House Servant, Mary Bunton (born c. 1839, Greetham, Rutland, Single) is also listed. [2]

Sarah Pollard (Widow, Annuitant, &8, born South Witham) is listed in the 1881 census at Wymondham, Leicestershire in the household of her son, John Bowder (born c. 1833, South Witham, Lincolnshire). John was married to Grace (born c. 1833). A daughter, Sabina (born c. 1860, London) and a William Berriman (born c. 1860, Lynmouth, Devon, Butcher and nephew) and Eliza Fowler (Domestic Servant, born Greetham, Rutland c. 1864) were also listed. She passed away in 1889.[6]

William married Jane Dale at Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire on the 22nd of September 1851. [8]

In the 1871 census, Willam is listed as a Lodger in the household of Thomas Tate. William is described as a Baker, Married, aged 39. Also listed is his son, John Henry (born c. 1852, South Witham, Baker [9]). [10]

John Henry Bowder is listed as the grandson of Nathaniel in the 1861 census at Saxby, Leicestershire. [11]
