Biography

Jonathan was born in 1786[1].

Jonathan, son of David & Elizabeth, was born on 28 April 1787 and baptised in Malton, Yorkshire, England.[2]

Other sources have the year 1787. The 1861 Census shows him a widower living in Niton, Hampshire with the occupation Tanner and Glue Boiler. This may be a mistake as by that time the family was well established as industrialists in the North-East and his death took place not long after in that area, not in the South. He died in 1863.[3]

Jonathan's father David married a second time: Elizabeth Rowntree in 1800.

Tom: For an authoritative source on This family (and many other Quaker lines) it is hard to beat: http://www.pennyghael.org.uk/Priestman.pdf.

I've yet to see Elizabeth Rowntree as his mother! You're most welcome to join me in the management of this profile, and others. It's 'only' part of larger project as far as I am concerned. As for the census return, if this is indeed the same Jonathan could he just have been visiting?

For the profile manager: Mark, this looks like the sources confusing us - possibly another Jonathan Priestman, unless you have better info.
