Biography

Joseph's father (also Joseph) died in 1815 followed by his mother Susannah the next year, leaving him in charge of the family at age 22, still unmarried. He was appointed guardian of his two youngest siblings, Daniel and Samuel, 30 Aug 1819. Jiseph married 1823 Martha Fackler, and they had ten children. Joseph was a farmer in Newton Twp, Miami Co OH, eventually settling on an 80 acre parcel in 1841 where he and Martha raised their family in a log cabin. (Honeyman & McDaniel 1998),

Joseph Rench (M 50, farming) was recorded in the 1850 U.S. Census, residing in Newton Township, Miami, Ohio, with Martha Rench (F 45), David Rench (M 25), Abram Rench (M 23), Joseph Rench (M 21), Susan Rench (F 18), Mary Rench (F 17), Daniel Rench (M 14), [Hetable] Rench (F 12), Catha[r]ine Rench (F 9), and Sarah E Rench (F 5). Joseph Sr and Martha were born in Pennsylvania, the others in Ohio. Joseph Sr owned real estate valued at $2,500.

In 1883, being no longer able to take care of his affairs, his children sold the family farm, and Joseph died four years later. (Honeyman)
