Could Thomas Richards be the one who sailed from London to Barbados on the Hopewell 1633/1634?
posted by Sally (Klosz) Fabro
Probably not. New England and Barbados are two different destinations. Barbados is not generally a stop over before going to New England.

Actually, it sometimes was. Atlantic currents...

We need a source for the identification of his parents. Anyone?

His birth listed as 1600 in Connecticut must be an error. The earliest explorers in Connecticut were the New Amsterdam Dutch 1614. Massachusetts and Plymouth Colony was settled next 1620 when the Mayflower arrived.

The firt settlements in Connecticut were 1633 in Hartford, Connecticut Colony. Windsor Connecticut was also settled 1633. Connecticut was settled by English colonists leaving Massachusetts. Lyons Gardiner (of Gardiners island, and East Hampton, Long Island, NY), settled Saybrook Connecticut 1634. The English settlers were leaving the strict colonies of Massachusetts and trying to prevent the Dutch from expanding control up the Connecticut River. Is there a supporting source saying that he was born in Connecticut?
