Biography
Jean Baptiste Richer was born and baptized on 13 Feb 1828 in Saint-Pierre de Sorel parish in Richelieu, Bas-Canada. He was the son of Augustin Richer, blacksmith, and Marie Céleste Lagrave of this parish. Sponsors for Jean Baptiste's baptism were Jean Baptiste Dénis and Marie Anne Black; neither the sponsors nor the father signed the register.
At age 26 Jean Baptiste married Marie Julie Guimond on 5 Oct 1854 in Saint-Hippolyte de Wotton parish in Richmond, Canada East. The couple received a dispensation for two banns of marriage. There were 11 known children born into this marriage.
Jean Baptiste Richer died at age 83 on 21 Jul 1908 in Saint-Georges de Windsor, Richmond, Québec, Canada. He was buried two days later in Saint-Georges de Windsor parish cemetery; his sons Eugene, George and Israel were present.
