Biography

Thomas Boone Roberts was born about 1808 to Jesse Roberts and Nancy Anderson.

He married Nancy (Bowling) Roberts (abt.1806-), daughter of Eli Bowling (abt.1785-abt.1833), 10 July 1826 in Clay Co., KY[1].

He makes the 1830 census of Clay Co., KY with his wife and children[2].

Thomas Roberts & his brothers (Swinfield, Farris, & Washington) jointly sell a tract of their late father's land on the South Fork of the Kentucky River 25 March 1835[3].

The 1840 census records Thomas's household in Clay Co., KY[4].

The 1850 census of Clay Co., KY records Thomas & Nancy's household in Clay Co., KY, again[5].

Thomas's daughter, Lucia, was born in 1853[6] - the years birth registry recorded her parents as Thomas Roberts & Nancy Bowlin.

The 1860 census records his household in Clay Co., KY[7].

Thomas was deceased by November 1863[8]. He was buried in the Clay Gap Cemetery in Pigeonroost, Clay County, Kentucky[9].

His son, Washington Boone Roberts, passed in 1918[10] - his death certificate listed Thomas Roberts & Nancy Bowling as his parents.

Death & Burial

Thomas Boone Roberts is, traditionally, given a death date of 1870 - because he is not found on the 1870 census. His widow, Nancy (Bowling) Roberts is a head-of-household on the 1870 census.

Per an 1864 deed in Clay Co., KY, Thomas Roberts was deceased by November 1863 when a suit was brought against the administrator of his estate.

His FindAGrave Memorial, however, contains a photograph of a headstone showing a death date of 4 March 1880.

Either the stone was put up some time after his passing, or the tombstone is being misattributed.
