Biography

Harriet Ross-Lewin was born about 1794 and christened in Tidenham, Gloucestershire, England on 8 October 1794.[1] She was the daughter of Harrison Ross-Lewin and his wife Eliza Hardwick.

On 28 March 1814, she married William De Gillern (born Joseph Wilhelm von Gillern) in Freshwater, Hampshire, England.[2][3][4]

William and Harriet migrated to Van Diemen's Land, Australia, arriving in Hobart on 21 December 1823 aboard the "Courier".[4][5]

William and Harriet did not have any children.[4]

Harriet's husband died on 2 November 1857.[4] Harriet died on 2 January 1870 at her residence in Davey St, Hobart.[6][7]

Research Notes

A watercolour by Thomas Griffiths Wainewright and a postcard of the same people show that Harriet was the Aunt of Lucy (Davey) Scott.
