Mary E. 'Minnie' Rusler was born in Lavaca County, Texas, in 1854, to parents John and Emily Smith Rusler. She moved to the Long Cove community in Lampasas County, Texas, with the family in 1875. She married two men who were considerably older than herself. In 1884, she married Senterfitt grocer, Robert Goodwin Kirby who died about three years later. In 1890, Mary married Freeman Smith, a Lometa mechanic, who left her a widow in 1912. Mary has no known children. She died in 1931 and is buried in the Long Cove Cemetery.
