Biography

Joseph Russ was born ^[1] 2 Aug 1710, Andover, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the first of seven children born to Joseph Russ and Priscilla Moore^{[2] [3]}

By age nine, Joseph moved with his family 90 miles to the southwest, to the town of Ashford, Connecticut.

Joseph, age twenty-one, married 1st Esther Proctor on 27 Jan 1731/32 in Ashford, Connecticut Colony.^[4] Esther was the twenty-one year old daughter of Hannah (Wilson) Proctor and James Proctor.

Child of Joseph and Esther (born in Ashford):

1. Joseph Russ (17 Nov 1732 ^[5] - 1796) married 1st Eunice Richardson in 1759, married 2nd Elizabeth (Skinner) Blish in 1792, lived in Middlefield, MA

Esther died at age twenty-four on 22 Apr 1734 in Ashford.^[6]

Joseph married 2nd Patience Baldwin on 22 Jan 1734/35 in Ashford, CT.^[3][7] Patience was the twenty-two year old daughter of Hannah (Knowlton) Baldwin and Benjamin Baldwin.

By 1737, Joseph and family moved 25 miles south to Norwich, CT, where daughter Esther was born. They stayed in Norwich a short time before returning to Ashford by 1742, where daughter Patience was born. By 1747, they were settled in nearby Willington, where their children, Timothy and Hannah were born. Willington land records show that Joseph purchased property there in 1749^[17], 1751 and 1752.

Joseph died 09 Dec 1780 at Ashford, CT. ^[18]The details of his burial are unknown, but he has a memorial page on findagrave.^[19]
