Biography

The daughter of John Thomas Russ (1883-1937) and Lucinda Hubbard (1880-1961), Mamie Russ was born in Newburg, Alabama^{[citation needed]} in 1902, residing with her family in 1910 in Crowder Mountain Township, North Carolina,^[1] where her father was laying roofing at a cotton mill. Her siblings included:

Mamie and her family made their home in Newburg, Alabama, farming.^[2][3] By 1940, Mamie and her family lived in Mitchells Township, Alabama, in Lauderdale County.^[4] That year, on the federal census enumeration, her husband did not list an occupation and the only wage earner in the household was Mamie's oldest son, Walter, who worked as a laborer on a road construction project.

Widowed in 1947, Mamie married John B. Curry (1887-1965), the son of Samuel Curry and Nellie Rogers. Widowed a second time in 1965,^[5] Mamie married a third time, marrying Simeon Pinkerton Kelley in Montgomery County, Alabama on May 4, 1966.^[6]

Mary Ann kelley passed away at the age of 75 and is buried at Mitchell Cemetery in Anderson, Alabama.^[7]
