Biography

Georgina was born at Dalricket in New Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland on 11 Feb 1862.^[1][2][3][4] She was the youngest child of George Sanderson & Elisabeth Murphy. When Georgina was just a toddler, her parents passed away within a year of each other^[5][6] and Georgina and two of her brothers went to live with their older married sister, Mary Gibson.^[7]

By 1881, Georgina was living at Brockloch Farm, New Cumnock, Ayrshire and working as a servant to the Sloan family.^[8]

On 28 Nov 1884, Georgina married James Lammie at Laigh Wellwood in Muirkirk, Ayrshire^[9][10] and over the following six years, they had two daughters and two sons.

James and Georgina moved their young family around the lowlands of Scotland, wherever James could secure employment as a shepherd. In 1891, they were living and working at Glenallan Farm, Auchencairn, Isle of Arran, Buteshire and, by this time, they had two daughters and a son.^[11] In 1901, they were living at Ploughland Farm in Dundonald, Ayrshire where James was employed as a dairyman.^[12] By this time, their family of four was complete. In the 1911 Scotland Census, two children had left the family unit and James, Georgina, Annie and William were living in Irvine, Ayrshire.^[13]

Sometime before 1918, James and Georgina moved to Lochmaben in Dumfriesshire and the couple’s younger son, William, and his wife set up home with them after their marriage in 1917. ^[14] William continued to farm at Castlemains after his father’s death and the farm remains in Lammie ownership to this day (2024).

Georgina passed away at Castlemains, Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire on 21 Oct 1928, at the age of 66,^[15] and is buried in Lochmaben New Cemetery, Dumfriesshire.^[16]
