Biography

Hyman was a cutter for a clothing manufacturer and, with his wife and son, resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the father of the film director and screen writer Richard Brooks (born Reuben Sax).

Hyman Sax was born in Russia on 22 August 1888.[1] He emigrated from Trieste in Italy and arrived in New York on 16 October 1908 aboard the Oceanic and was naturalized in 1919.[2][3]

According to census information, Hyman and his wife emigrated to the United States in 1908. He was 18 when they were married, and she was 16. This would indicate that they were married in 1906, presumably in the Russian Empire.

He lived in Philadelphia with his wife Esther and only son Reuben.[4][5]

He died on 29 April 1963 in Los Angeles.[6][7][8]
