Hello!

I noticed that you're working on pre-1700-era profiles. This is just a reminder that certifying to work on these types of profiles means that you agree to add valid sources as outlined in the Pre-1700 Certification Quiz. Unsourced family trees are not acceptable sources.

If you need help with this, our G2G Forum is a great place to start. You can get there by clicking the link on the Help menu.

Thanks!

Hi John

Thanks for your concern. I recently entered the profiles of Jacob Schurch and Barbara Brand , born before 1700 who were my 6th great grandparents. My 5th GGF was their son Ulrich, born in 1703, who came to America in1752 on the ship St. Andrew. My DNA results confirm that I share DNA with the descendents of Ulrich's children. I intend to add sources, most of which are in the FamilySearch database.

However, the complete story of this family can be found in the document "Mennomite Family History" Volume II, Number 2, April 1, 1983. Specifically pages 65-69 in the Chapter "Two Mennonite Immigrants Named Ulrich " by Thomas A Sherk. This paper is well referenced. One of the Ulrichs' is my 4 GGF and the other is a distant cousin who arrived on the ship Mortonhouse in 1728. The paper follows the family history of both of these men back to a common ancestor Ulrich Schurch born 1614. The Schurch family tree goes back to 1365 in Family Tree. It is worth noting that the other Ulrich Schurch is included in Wikitree through the common family back to 1515.

i will complete the two people that Ihave started and would be intersted on any comments on the paper mentioned above and using that as a source.

Hi Tom!

Thank you for your response. My suggestion would be for you to contact the Switzerland Project and ask if your document could be used as a source. Many times, projects set the source requirements for their area. You can also post your inquiry in G2G and tag Switzerland so they see your post. I hope this helps!

Happy Hunting!

Hi, Thomas!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
