Traumatic event: on Sunday 13 September 1970, three absconders from the Cadell Training Prison, entered the Schiller farm where they violently broke into the home, tied up and robbed Adolph Wilhelm Schiller, Myrtle Valentine Schiller, and Graham Morell Smith of clothing and money, locked-in Myrtle's mother, Amanda Ziegler, after which they abducted and held hostage 21 year old daughter Monica Schiller. The tense drama involving a chase in a stolen vehicle into northern South Australia, ended Tuesday 15 September with the arrest of the perpetrators on the Birdsville Track and Monica's safe return to her family.
