John Elliot Sentelle Jr was born on 23 Jul 1910 in Haywood County, North Carolina to John Elliot Sentelle Sr (1868-1956) and Nancy Louise "Nannie" Naynes (1872-1942). [1]
On the 1920 Census he was 9 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Pigeon, Haywood County, North Carolina. He had attended school and was able to read or write. [2]
On the 1930 Census he was 18 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Natural Bridge, Rockbridge County, Virginia. [3]
He was married to Mecie Etta (Doby) Sentelle (1909 - 2003) on 22 Dec 1933 in Alamance County, North Carolina. They had three known children: Ruby Anne Sentelle Westbrooks, Carol Sentelle Casey, and Gerald Lee Sentelle Scarlett Jackson. [4]
On the 1940 Census he was 39 years old and lived with his wife and parents-in-law and sisters-in-law in Cheeks, Orange County, North Carolina. Her occupation was "weaver". She had completed her first year of high school. [5]
He registered for the World War II draft on 16 Oct 1940 in Mebane, Orange County, North Carolina. [6]
He enlisted in the United States Navy on 31 Mar 1943. He was on the muster roll for USS English (DD696) dated 31 Dec 1944. He was discharged on 31 Oct 1945. [7] [8]
He passed away on 28 May 1994 in Mebane, Orange County, North Carolina and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane, Orange County, North Carolina. [9] [10]
