Irvin Daniel was born April 1, 1871, in Knox Twp, Jefferson, Pennsylvania.[1][2]
He married Ida Spare on June 23, 1893 in Jefferson County, PA at the age of 22.[2]
He died on February 23, 1931 and was buried at Saint Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Ramsaytown, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.[1]

Irving Daniel Shaffer, died at his home in Brookville, Pa., R. F. D. No. 2, at 9:00 o'clock a. m., February 23rd, after having been ill since July 1929. at which time he was struck by an automobile, injuring his head so that ever since he has been a victim of dizzy spells.
The deceased was born near Ramsaytown, April 1, 1871, the son of John and Charlotte (Stahlman) Shaffer. He was united in marriage to Ida Minerva Spare, June 23, 1894, in the Grace Lutheran Parsonage with Rev. J. J. Kerr in charge of the ceremony.
There were five children born to this union, the following, who with their mother, Ida Minerva (Spare) Shaffer survive, Mr. Shaffer, Perry D., of Ramsaytown, Leo Edward of Brookville, Clarence at home, and Mrs. Jennie L. Kennedy of Ramsaytown. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: A. L. Shaffer of Corsica, Mrs. D. K. Barnett, of Hunters Grove, Mrs. Jane Allshouse of Ramsaytown, Mrs. Carrie Gaylor of Ringgold, and Mrs. Cath Spare of Coolspring.
The deceased was a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Brief services were held at his late home in Ramsaytown, and regular funeral services at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church, February 25th. Rev. Paul E. Porath was in charge of the services. In 1910, Irvin lived in Knox Twp., Jefferson Co., with his wife Ida and four children: Perry, 15; Twila, 13; Jennie, 11; Leo, 3. He worked as a farmer.[6]
In 1920, Irvin Shafer lived in Knox Twp., Jefferson Co., with his wife Ida and two sons, Leo and Clerence.[7]
In 1930, Irwin lived in Knox Twp., Jefferson Co., with his wife Ida M and son Clarance. He was a "farm laborer".[8]
