Biography

Elijah was born May 16, 1873, in Halfmoon, NY to his parents Isaac H. and Anna Eliza (Woodin) Shear. He became a Blacksmith. Elijah was married to Minnie Hatlee (1st marriage) and then after her passing during childbirth later married Grace Perry (2nd Marriage.)

Elijah earned a rough reputation among his family members per Great Grandson, Michael Cranston. "Elijah I have heard was quite the drunkard back in the day. he would beat his kids and I am sure his wife too. My mother who is 85 now remembers the stories that her mother and her mothers sisters and brothers would tell. He would leave Grace for months at a time I have been told. He went out on a binge on New Years eve 1934 and came home and went to sleep on the couch and died in his sleep. At least that is the story my grandmother told my mother."
