Biography

He was born census calculated 1775[1] in Princess Anne Virginia, son of Tully Shipp and Priscilla (Whitehurst) Shipp (abt.1756-abt.1800)[2].

He married Sara Cox on 10 Jan 1798 in Princess Anne Co. [3].

He and his father are listed on a land patent for 160 acres from the US Government in 1818 in Illinois[4].

It's been assumed he went to Ky by 1820 where a James Shipp is enumerated in Clark co, central Ky 1820[5] and Wayne Co. Tennessee border ky 1830[1], the later with a calculated birth abt 1775 and his wife abt 1785 with two sons less than age15.

He's been said and assumed he died in 1828 in Clark Co., KY without source apparently based on the census of 1920 and an unsourced family file[6]. However, a Sarah Shipp age70 (b. callc. 1780) is residing with an apparent son Jackson and family in Gallatin, Ky 1850 on the border with Indiana where her son's wife was born[7] making it appear James died before 1850 and perhaps 1828 as said.
