Robert was born in 1613. He was the son of Thomas Shires and Jane Clowhge [sp].[1] Like several of his siblings, Robert's birth was not found recorded in the transcribed Parish Register of Bolton by Bolland in the County of York, 1558-1724. No document has been found to attest to the exact date of his birth. It is estimated based on being of the age to marry in 1640.
His mother, Jaine, died in 1628, and his father, Thomas, died in 1629. Thomas Shires of Grindleton in the parish of Miton [Mitton]] and county of Yorke, yeoman, set his mark and his seal; to his Last Will and Testament on the 8th day of January 1629 making special bequests to his son Robert Shyres.[1]
The villages of Bolton by Bowland, Grindleton, and Waddington were within the parish of Mitton on the west side of the Ribble River.
In the village of Waddington there was a chapel with parochial status, unlike the chapel at Grindleton, where the marriage of Robert Shires and Ellizabetha [Elizabeth] Croesdall [Croasdale] was recorded on the 10th of February 1640.[2]
He passed away in 1644. Robert Shires of Grundleton [Grindleton] [was] Buried the xxvijth [27th] day of Januarie, 1644.[2]
