George was born about 1832. He may have been the son of Michael (or Meguil) Shires and an American Indian known as Nancy.[1][2][3] in 1860, he was living with two of his sisters in Panola County, Texas.[4] He was married there to Belveretta Bradley in 1861.[5] By 1880, he had moved to Van Zandt County, Texas, and he was married to a woman named Sarah.[6]
Research Notes
There was also a George W. Shires listed in the same area of Texas around 1836,[7] but he is unlikely to be this George. Could he be the father of Michael?
