James was the son of Peter Riley Shupe and Sarah Wright.
James Wright Shupe was a Private in Company C. He was a member of Captain Brown's Pueblo detachment. His wife Sarah accompanied him.[1]
He married in 1846 to Sarah Coats Prunty. She was born 28 September 1822 in Franklin Co., Virginia (daughter of Robert Prunty and Judith Farris). She passed away 22 June 1865 in Riverdale, Weber, Utah.
