James Skynner was the son of John Skinner (1452-1516 Reigate, Surrey) and his wife Jane Gainsford (1452- ).
James was married three times, his first wife was Katherine who he married before October 1536.
His second wife was widow Elizabeth Bacon. Elizabeth had two children from her previous marriage - Elizabeth and John - who are mentioned in James's Will, as are their uncles Sir Thomas Bacon clerk and Nicholas Bacon. Elizabeth died on 29th August 1549 according to the inscription in St Mary Reigate which reads - "Pray for the soule of Elizebeth Skinner, 2 wiffe of James Skinner of Rigate, Esqr., wch Elizebeth deceased the 29 of August in the yeare of our Lord God 1549 on whose soule Christ have mercye Amen"[1].
Following Elizabeth's death, James remarried for a third time to widow Margaret Poyntz nee Saunders.
James made his Will on 28th July 1558 [2] and died at Reigate on 30th July 1558 according to the inscription in St Mary Reigate chancel which reads "Here lyeth buried James Skinner of Rigate in the county of Surrey wch dyed 30 of July in the yeare of our Lord God 1558 upon whose soule Lord have mercy Amen" [3]
