Asst. Surgeon Horatio Soule served in the United States Civil War.

Horatio was a Mayflower Descendant of George Soule (Soule-33).

Horatio Soule was born on March 3, 1823 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States, son of Samuel Soule (1786–1865) and Hannah Partridge (1792–1838).[1]

Horatio was a Mayflower descendant. His father Samuel was in a family history naming descendants of Mayflower passenger George Soule. [2]

Marriage

Horatio married Eliza Henderson on December 13, 1845 in Boston, Massachusetts.[3]

Horatio was attending Medecal School at Harvard University in 1854 in East Boston. Mass.[4]

In 1860, Horatio (37) was living in Bucksport, Hancock County, Maine, with his wife, Eliza M (32), and son Horace (1). [5]

Military Service, Civil War

At the age of 40, Horatio joined the Field & Staff of the 56th Massachusetts Infantry as an Assistant Surgeon on November 30, 1863.[6]

In February 1864, Horation was on duty as the Assistant Post Surgeon at Camp Meigs in Readville, Massachusetts. Then in May 1864, Horatio was on detached duty with the batteries of the 1st Division.[7]

On December 24, 1864, Horatio requested a 30-day leave of absence to attend to his father, who suffered from paralysis. Leave was granted.[6]

He was mustered out on July 12, 1865.[6]

Post War

In 1865, Horatio (42), a Physician, was living in Winthrop, Suffolk with his wife, Elisa M (36); son Horace G (6), and daughter Hattie E (3). [8]

In 1870, Horatio (47) was living in Winthrop, Suffolk County, Massachusetts with his wife, Eliza M (44); their son, Horace J (11); daughter, Hattie J (7); and mother-in-law Mary Henderson (74). [9]

In 1880, Horatio (57), a Physician, was living in Winthrop, Suffolk, with his wife, Eliza M. (53), and their children, Horace J. (21), a laborer, and Hattie E. (18). [10]

Horatio became a freemason on October 7, 1895 in Winthrop, Mass.[11]

In 1890, Horatio (67) was in a census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War. [12]

Death

Horatio died on October 7, 1895, in Winthrop, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, aged 72. He was buried in Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.[13][14] [15]
