In 1739, a newspaper notice reads: "Ran away from Ichabod Soule of Scituate, on the 15th of November last past, a molatto man servant, named Tonay Samson, a well set fellow, of about 33 years of age, he had on an old felt hat, a worsted cap, a blue broadcloth coat, a black and white flannel jacket, a white flannel shirt, a pair of trousers, and old stockings and shoes. Whoever shall take up the above said runaway and convey him to me at Scituate, shall have three pounds reward and all necessary charges paid by Ichabod Soule, All Masters of Vessels, are hereby cautioned against carrying off said servant, to avoid the penalty of the Law."^[7]
