William Soule was a lifelong resident of Middleboro, Massachusetts, where he was born in 1739 and married in 1760.
In 1746, his mother was appointed to be his guardian after his father died.[1]
In 1750, after the death of his mother, Samuel Shaw of Plimpton was appointed to be his guardian.[2]
In 1755, above the age of 14 years, William made the choice of James Smith of Middleborough to be his guardian.[3] On 30 September 1760, now of age, he received his estate from his guardian, James Smith.[4]
American Revolutionary War
Private William Soule served with 13th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.
Private, Lieut. Jonah Washburn's co., Col. Ebenezer Sprout's Sprout-114 13th MA Regt.; service 6 days; company marched from Middleborough to Rhode Island on the alarm of December 9, 1776.[5]
He was a soldier in the American Revolution, and died of smallpox in 1777.
He was buried in the smallpox cemetery in East Middleboro.[6]
Probate
William Soule of Middleborough, tanner died intestate and on 6 July 1778, his widow Sarah was granted the administration of his estate.[7]
His inventory was taken on 18 July 1778 in Middleborough.[8]
In 1783, his widow Sarah was appointed guardian of his daughters, Remember, age about 10 years, and Huldah, age 8. Silas Tinkham of Middleborough was appointed guardian of his son Anson, age 13 years.[9] His son William, aged 15 years, made the choice of Silas Tinkham to be his guardian also.[10]
In 1783, an account of his estate by his widow Sarah was recorded which included provisions for the family, debts paid, and administration fees.[11]
In 1783, and recorded in 1802, his estate was set out to his widow, Sarah, and his children, Huldah Soule, Remember Soule, Aseneth Soule, James Soule, Lydia Soule, Ansell Soule, and William Soule.[12]
