1683 the area that comprises Delaware County was part of Albany and Ulster Counties.

July 1766 Albany County was reduced in size and Cumberland County was made.

Mar 1770 Albany County was further reduced in size to make Gloucester County.

Mar 1772 Albany was split into three parts - Albany County, Tyron County and

1784 Tyron County was changed to Montgomery County

1789 Montgomery County was split to form Ontario County

1791 Montgomery County was split to form three additional counties - Otsego, Herkimer and Tioga Counties.

1797 Delaware County was formed from parts of Otsego and Ulster counties.
