Biography

Alfred, son of Christopher Steers and Christina Bentley, was born on 26 Mar 1860 in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York.^[1]

On 31 Dec 1883, Alfred married Laura G. Kleinfelder in Kings County, New York.^[2][1]

In the 1910 census Alfred (age 50) was the married head of household in Brooklyn Ward 32, Kings, New York, United States.^[3]

In the 1920 census Alfred (age 59) was the married head of household in Kings, New York, United States.^[4]

In the 1930 census Alfred (age 70) was the married head of household in Brooklyn (Districts 0751-1000), Kings, New York, United States.^[5]

In the 1940 census Alfred (age 80) was the married head of household in New York, Kings, New York.^[6]

Alfred served as Brooklyn Borough President from 1910 to 1913, after running on an independent Democrat-Republican Fusion ticket, and defeating the powerful Brooklyn Democratic boss, John McCooey. For 38 years he also served as a city magistrate.^[7][8]

Alfred passed away on 2 Mar 1948 in Flatbush, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York^[9][7][8], and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York.^[10]
